Alex E. Hill (Founder and Artistic Director) is an acclaimed conductor and composer with over thirty years experience leading professional and amateur choral and orchestral groups. He earned a Bachelor of Music degree cum laude in Music Composition from the University of North Texas, and a Master of Music in Conducting from Penn State. Alex served on the faculty of the Penn State School of Music where he taught advanced courses in music theory, counterpoint, composition / orchestration, and directed choral and orchestral ensembles. Now living in Cary NC, Alex is Director of Music and Liturgy at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, where he leads multiple choral ensembles in traditional and contemporary choral music and Gregorian chant. Alex is a member of the Church Music Association of America, the American Choral Director's Association, and the American Guild of Organists. His wife of thirty-six years, Andrea C. Hill, is Founder and Artistic Director of the City Ballet. They have six children.
Alex has conducted choral and orchestral masterworks, full-length ballets and operettas, and dozens of smaller sacred and secular compositions. He has led performances in principal Masses at St. Peter's Basilica at the Vatican in Rome, on tours throughout North America, as well as regional performances by professional ensembles like the Pennsylvania Chamber Chorale, the Music at Penn's Woods Festival Orchestra, and the City Ballet Orchestra. Alex's specialties include the polyphonic works of 16th-century composers Giovanni di Palestrina, Orlando de Lassus, and William Byrd, as well as contemporary choral art music.
